THE FOLLOWING ARE RED TAILED HAWK BANDED RETURNS. CREDIT IS GIVEN IF BANDING WAS DONE BY SOMEONE OTHER THEN THE FEATHER.
1-- Adult female red tailed banded in 1972 by Harold Dumke, DNR, at Horicon Wisconsin. Found 10 miles south of Horicon in the spring 1998, broken wing, dead. At least 17 years old.
2- 1117-23167-Red tailed hawk banded on 3-1979 at the Cedar Grove banding station. Hatching year bird . It was found dead east of Horicon Wisconsin on March 29, 1994. She was hit by a car and died. At least 15 years old.
3--877-98018. Red Tailed Hawk. Banded by Chris Cole at Lehman, Wisconsin on 12-26-1988. Recovered May 25, 1997 in the woods outside Leroy Wisconsin north of Mayville, Wisconsin. She had a brood patch, weighed #1340 and fine shot in her. She died. Barb Harvey finding the bird rented a plane and looked for the nest, she did not find it. She was at least 10 years old. THIS BIRD WAS SHOT.
4-- 1207-57806. This immature red tailed hawk named "Mrs Doucas" was banded in the nest on May 12, 1991 by bander Todd Durian. The nest was on a sign overlooking the car dealer, Doucas, outside Milwaukee. Her mother was grazed by a car when the chicks were three weeks old and she was in rehab for two days before being returned to the nest. The three chicks were fed by the bander until the parent returned. On Sept 28, 1993 one of the females from that nest was in rehab with a broken wing. She healed and was released November 13, 1993. In 1992 same nest three young were banded. On Sept. 28, 1993 she was in rehab with a broken wing. She healed and was released November 13, 1993. On June 4, 1994 Mrs Doucas was again in rehab this time she was a victim of a careless GUNSHOT WOUND that broke her wing near the wrist. She was picked up some three blocks from where she was born. She was again released on July 15, 1994. On April 4, 1999 she was hit by a car and died the next day at a rehab center in Milwaukee. She was eight years old.
5--1207-42257 Red Tailed hawk. Male. Intake 4-01-91. Original injury, the bird hit a power line and smashed both wings. Vet said the bird would never fly, we did not tell this to the bird. Wings healed, not perfect but the bird flew in a 65 foot cage and killed everything we put in. Released 8-03-91 back to where found. On 4-01-92 the bird was caught in a chicken coup by a farmer and was re-released on site.

6--Adult red tailed hawk. Intake 2-96. This bird had head
trauma on the original intake. It healed and was released on
4-2-96.. On release the bird was met in the air and we feared some
conflict. On 4-18 received a call on a downed red tail and by
the time we got there the bird had died. The injuries to the head
and eye area were enough to kill it. This was an injury from another
red tail, perhaps the territory had been already taken or the initial bird
was in the territory when first injured.
7--1387-96715. Red tailed hawk. Intake 8-29-99 Paralyzed bird from Appleton Wisconsin. The bird was here for two months, killing and flying. Immature bird transferred to Waupaca Wisconsin for release on private property. This release was 55 miles from where picked up originally. Found dead on 11-15-99 on the highway outside Appleton where originally found.
8--1207-36279. Red tailed hawk. Intake 6-20-2000. By car dealer on College Ave. Appleton Wisconsin. Car hit, head trauma. Admit # 1289 Released bird on 7-16-2000 near Sherwood Wisconsin. This was a second year bird. The release site was some 50 miles from original pick up.
9--1207-36279. Same bird as above. Intake 7-4-2002. Car hit, head trauma. From same location in Appleton Wisconsin. Same location as first encounter, same injury, two years later. Held for one month and re-released on 8-4-2002 at rehabbers home, outside New London Wisconsin. Most likely the bird is back on the original site.
10--1207-36279. Same bird as above. 10-2002. a falconer out trapping red tails, brought this bird down in the same Appleton area. Bird in good flesh, released again at same site.
11--1207-32865. Red tailed hawk. Intake 8-20-2001. Car hit, broken right humerus. Bird was flown in 100 foot flight and fed live rodents. It was banded and released 9-20-2001. On 8-13-2002 this bird was again in rehab, this time with a broken leg in two places, possible car hit. Leg was cast and was re-released the middle of October 2002.
12--two red tails released from Mayville Wisconsin area ended up in rehab out of state. One in Mahomet, Illinois and one in Memphis Tennessee. Both died in rehab, both were car hits. Both were immature birds in migration.. 13-- 877-19183. Red Tailed hawk banded in Michigan in 1986 as a second year bird. Found in Appleton Wisconsin on Jan.21, 2003. THE BIRD WAS GUNSHOT. The left wing at elbow had 2 pellets of fine shot. The fine shot was not removed. The bird's wgt when found was #956. We rested it and fed it up to a good weight, flew it and made sure it was killing. It was re-released on Feb. 2, 2003 in same area where it was found. THIS BIRD WAS ATA LEAST 15 YEARS OLD...................... 14--1387-96711. This immature bird was found in Menasha, Wisconsin on 3-20-1998. The bird had a broken leg from a GUNSHOT WOUND. The pellets were removed. The bird learned how to kill again and was released May 17, 1998 north of New London, Wisconsin. It was found dead January 7, 2002 in Neenah, cause unknown. This bird was almost 5 years old.
15--1387-96713. Red tailed hawk. Adult. Received this bird on 06-23-98. It was a car hit, outside Wautoma Wi, with possible head trauma. It was released at site where found and was hit and killed by a car 02-07-99. 16--1387-37819 Red Tailed Hawk, adult. Received this bird on July 24, 2005 from the Hortonville area, just south of New London. It was banded Sept 9, 1990 as a young passage bird by Tom Erdman from Green Bay area. The injury was from a leg hold trap. The right foot was black and dead and hanging by just the skin. The left foot was sore with bumble foot. The bird was put down on admission.
